We love how you guys slide into our DM’s complimenting us about the quality of our photos on our instagram page and we thought it was time we shared some of our secrets, we have complied our top 5 tips for you to get you onto the road to taking the perfect selfie!
1. Light is your best friend
To capture yourself in the perfect light we would recommend either facing a window or going outside and basking in natural light. Nature is the perfect filter! Top tip – place a white piece of paper under your chin to reflect the light and give your face a nice even glow.
2. Take A lot of selfies
No one knows your face like you do, and figuring our your best angles can actually be a lot of fun. Kylie Jenner is known to take 100’s of selfies before she posts the best one. Making slight adjustments to the angle of your neck and chin can make all the difference and the more you take the better you become at perfecting your pose. Whether it’s smiling, pouting or raising a perfectly shaped eyebrow. The most important thing is to remember to be comfortable in yourself and that will shine through.
3. Night Time Selfies
Taking selfies at night can be a real pain! We find that phone lights can be too bright and leave you looking like a dear caught in the headlights. Not the look you were going for :/ To combat this We favour the use of a clip-on mobile selfie light. They work wonders for the selfies we take on our instagram feed. instagram.com/ownitgirl To make it easy for you also happen to stock the one we use right here –> clip-on mobile selfie light
“There is nothing worse than having a huge shadow cast over your face,” says photographer and style blogger Candice Lake. “When in doubt, face directly into or away from the sun. If it’s the middle of the day and the sun is high, the shadows can look like bags under your eyes. The golden hour to shoot a photo is during sunrise or sunset, when the light is low and the most beautiful.”
First thing is first… Don’t over edit. You want to look human after all! Subtle changes and using filters sparingly can enhance your selfies but the best advice we can offer is to think about colour, lighting and what is in the background of your shot before you take your photo.
5. Be aware of shadows
Taking photos outdoors in the midday sun can cast shadows beneath your eyes making them look like bags… Not exactly what you want for a selfie. If this is the case the best thing you can do is to face directly towards the sun or away from it to crate an even balance of light.
Top Tip:The perfect time of day to take a photo is during sunrise of sunset, the sun is low and not to over baring.
We hope you find our tips useful and remember don’t take yourself too seriously, you’re gorgeous the way you are.
